Ingredients

These simple ingredients are all that you need to make a flavorful marinade. Here's a list for you to look over before you run to the grocery store:

A recipe for a homemade tzatziki sauce, perfect as a condiment for marinated pork tenderloin or other dishes.
  • olive oil
  • whole grain mustard
  • honey
  • minced garlic
  • red wine vinegar
  • dried thyme
  • salt and black pepper

Substitutions and Variations

If you don't have olive oil, you can use avocado oil or another neutral oil. I prefer the taste of olive oil in this recipe, but anything you have on hand will work!

You can swap the red wine vinegar for balsamic vinegar. If you don't have either of those, white wine vinegar will also work even though it may have a bit more of a "bite" to it.

Whole grain dijon mustard can be substituted with dijon mustard or spicy brown mustard. For a sweeter option, use some honey mustard instead.

This is a fabulous base marinade recipe to experiment with. Lemon zest and lemon juice (or lime juice) would be wonderful additions and fresh herbs could add some bold flavor.

You can add more flavor with spices like onion powder or condiments like soy sauce or coconut aminos.

Move the pork to the side of the grill with indirect heat, the fatter side facing the heat. Grill for 4 more minutes on each side until the pork reaches a safe internal temperature of 145°F (63°C).

Uses for Pork Tenderloin Marinade

There are dozens of different uses for a good marinade. While this would make a juicy pork tenderloin, it's great for all different cuts of pork! Use it on pork chops or pork loin, or a delicious grilled pork tenderloin.

This is actually fabulous marinade for chicken too. It'd be great on grilled chicken breast or chicken thighs. And believe it or not, you can use this marinade as a salad dressing too!

Tips for Success

Good pork tenderloin is easy to make when you have a perfect marinade! Here's a few tips to make this recipe work well:

  • Do not use any extra marinade. If it has touched raw meat, it needs to be thrown out. However, leftover marinade that has not been used can be stored for later or even used as a salad dressing.
  • To save a bit of time, you can use the minced garlic that comes in a jar. You can find it at the grocery store near the produce.
  • Cooking pork tenderloin on an outdoor grill will be most successful if your grill is clean. Make sure you are starting with a clean grill so that the flavors turn out perfect and leftover food residue doesn't effect your pork tenderloin marinade.

FAQ

How long can pork tenderloin marinade?

With this specific recipe, pork tenderloin should not marinate longer than 24 hours. After 24 hours the acid in the vinegar can begin to turn the meat.

Do you rinse off marinade before cooking?

It is not necessary to rinse a marinade off before cooking. However, you should allow excess to drip off especially if you are grilling over direct heat. Drips from marinade could cause flare-ups so make sure you let excess drip off as much as possible.
